Raining all around

Can I just tell you that it is lashing with rain out there tonight? Lashing! Lashings of rainings against the window panings. It’s wet. I got home from first day of class (Nothing actually happens the first day. UVic sometimes feels like kindergarten.) to find no Gary home. Which wouldn’t have been too mysterious if not for the fact that Sam was home. This could only mean that Gary was not out walking Sam, but was still up at the farm cleaning out horse paddocks in the pouring, lashing, hosing down rain. He had biked there, so I hopped back in the car to pick him up. What a day to be mucking.

Polar bear swim

Almost as wet as the Polar Bears at our beach on New Years Day. Maybe next year my resolution will be to join the swim. A few shocking seconds and you could have a feeling of accomplishment for the entire year.

Even without the swim, I am feeling exhilarated. I’m excited about all the possibilities of the year to come. Possibilities are the upside of having short-term commitments, in terms of my work life. I’m having so much fun at work right now, running between the faux finishing work for the upcoming exhibit and back to my web project, where the pace has picked up as we race to the end. The inveterate procrastinators of British Columbia are emerging to send in their last-minute stories to the project, so suddenly I’m flooded with material. Then at home I’m learning Drupal while building a website for Gary and revamping my portfolio. I have two studio classes (drawing and sculpture) and two museum studies classes this spring. And I’m reorganizing my office (aka the dining room). My resolution this year is to make the house a nicer, comfier, more organized place, whilst being as thrifty as possible.

Print set

And now, two more things I’m highly excited about. The first is above, my thrift store find from last weekend. One look at the box design (tossed, if I remember correctly, amongst the health and beauty aids) and I knew it had to be good. It’s an awesome alphabet stamping set, with all its parts, including the tweezers for sticking the little rubbery letters into the stamper holder (you’d go mad otherwise). The letter blocks even have kerning built in (though of course you could space them out too, what with the handy holder).

Second, the next installment of Battlestar Galactica (1st half of the last season, which we have not watched yet) on DVD is on its way to us! Perfect for those wet winter evenings. Can’t wait.

I’ll be right over to watch BG with you! I am all mixed up after missing half of the episodes from this past season. And now I understand the final shows start in mid-January. Thankfully there will be DVDs to watch eventually! Stay dry!

I used to have an alphabet stamp set as a kid. I didn’t think of it until you mentioned the tweezers. NOW I remember putting in letters — and also searching for them as they sprang out.
