Coast to coast
I thought I might post once or twice during my trip to Boston to visit the fam, but I never did find the time. It was a very immersive experience. Immersed in my big family, immersed in the familiarity of old neighborhoods, of friends, the landscapes of various former lives. So different from my life here, which is focused on my own little family, and our new home here in Victoria. It was good to go, and good to come home too.
Above is a detail of what appeared to be a huge cut-paper curtain in the art studio at the Boston Children’s Museum. On Friday, I spent the afternoon at the museum with four of my nieces, a little friend of theirs, and their parents. It was a blast watching the girls take on the world, and also a chance for me to look at the exhibits. Since I’ve been working part-time at the Royal BC Museum, I’ve gotten more interested in how exhibits are made, so it was interesting to check out a new and very interactive museum, and see how they put things together.
I usually stay away from pictures of the kids, but since this one isn’t very recognizable, I can share with you this pic of a girl after my own heart — my niece in the workshop area. I loved seeing the five little girls take over the tool area, working the hand drills and saws, and making their take-home boats. Tool girls rock.
