Hey hey, it’s the Monkeys

monkey socks

Never the swiftest of knitters, I only just finished my Monkey Socks about two weeks ago when my mom was here. Interestingly, I can’t seem to photograph the color of these; it just does not seem to be in the gamut of my digital camera. I think it’s called crabapple, and its a lovely variegated red that looks faded in the way that jeans look faded. In a comfortable, loved-looking way.

Yesterday evening I had a nice knitting visit chez crafty bird, with the bird herself and the ex-nomad, both of whom I haven’t seen in a while. Much delicious spinach and garlic hummus was consumed (by me), and c.b. even let me try spinning with her wheel. It looked so easy while she was doing it, oh so casually, while simultaneously hostessing and holding up her end of the witty banter. I was quite flummoxed by trying to pedal, clamp, full, stretch, feed and not twist the entire bag of roving in the process. Speaking of wool in its raw-er forms, here is a gratuitous shot of a few Metchosin sheepies who look like they’ve had a buzzcut recently. Looks like they are all getting ready to jump over the mental fences of insomniacs everywhere. Hey, number four, get in line! You’re on deck!

sheepies

Oh, how I want one. Just one or two nice sheep. And some chickens. Did you know they have farm animals up for adoption through the BCSPCA? I can dream, can’t I? Meanwhile I am back on a regular shift at Wild ARC, which, by the way, is holding its once-a-year open house this weekend. Come see me at the Matheson Lake parking lot, where I will be cheerfully greeting visitors and making sure they get on the shuttle safely.

This really wants to be a whole post by itself, but I just want to quickly mention a new blog that I’m most excited about. It’s by my talented, lovely friend Laura and it’s called Something like this. Laura is not only a talented artist, designer, and all-around creative soul; she’s also a beautiful writer. Yay, Laura!

(By the way, I’m pretty sure that ending your post with “Yay, [blank]” is not the top indicator of brilliant post-writing, but what the heck.)

I KNOW! I don’t have anywhere to put them, but I still go online and browse sometimes. I think I’ve even seen alpacas on there.

So glad you had a nice time! Your monkey socks look great – isn’t red the hardest colour to photograph.

Those socks ROCK! What a fabulous photo of them, even if they look way more intense than they are in real life! I love it!
